Social Media Expert Alex Murashko says…”Stay Current With Your Message!”
by Alex Murashko — One of my clients, real estate expert and author Chuck Salisbury of TenPercentDown.com, sends out a monthly e-mail newsletter to his members. Salisbury does a good job of staying current with his basic message that real estate investment property is still a much lower risk than many investment choices today.
In his August newsletter, he lets his readers know about his position in the debate about health care reform. In this current age of marketing on the Web, whether you’ve got a great product or a great service, you may not survive on simply telling us about you and your product.
Is there a current hot news story that you’d like to share your opinion about? You may want to do so to simply pique the interest of people that may normally not approach your site on your message alone. My suggestion is to include safe, water cooler discussion type topics in your posts or newsletter e-mails. Sure, you can get controversial, but try to avoid alienating large groups of people with “unloving” chatter. By unloving, I mean statements that border on junior high playground banter. Be smart, be knowledgeable, and make sense.
In the lead of Salisbury’s post “Affordable health care? Not really!” notice that there is a bit of humility present. He’s not hitting us over the head with an “I’m right and you’re wrong” approach. Salisbury’s lead:
I am constantly challenged to understand the relationship between stimulating the economy vs. what is being done by the current administration. I don’t have a PHD in Economics, but I do have an ID in common sense… and really did pass Economics 101 in high school.
Salisbury goes on to write about his opinions in a down-to-earth way, interjecting factual content and later concluding by asking for reader response.
So, in review:
1. Include water cooler discussion topics in your posts.
2. Don’t alienate large groups of people.
3. Be intelligent in presenting your opinion.
4. Be humble…and loving!
