Report: Wall Street Journal developing own social networking

Dayton Business Journal — The Wall Street Journal is reportedly working on a social network to rival the most popular social networking for professionals, ambitiously code-naming it “LinkedIn Killer.”

The TechCrunch blog on Thursday cited unnamed sources in a story about News Corp.’s (NYSE:NWS) latest attempt at creating a social network for its flagship news organization.

A research arm of News Corp. called Slingshot Labs is working on the project, TechCrunch reports, hoping to come up with something that will get it some of LinkedIn Corp.’s more than 15 million monthly visitors.

The goal is reportedly a site much like LinkedIn’s, where business people can network, look for jobs or find clients. The project is in its early stages and no estimate of when it may become available was given.
